Centred on seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The musical is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. providing a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.

The original B’way production of “A Chorus Line” opened on Oct 19, 1975 at the Shubert, produced by The New York Shakespeare Festival in assoc w/Plum Productions under the auspices of Joseph Papp, following the downtown production at The Public Theatre. Michael Bennett directed and choreographed, with Bob Avian as co-choreographer, an ensemble cast that featured Carole (Kelly) Bishop, Pamela Blair, Wayne Cilento, Kay Kole, Baayork Lee, Priscilla Lopez, Robert LuPone, Donna McKechnie & Thommie Walsh, among others.  The original production closed on Apr 28, 1990 after becoming the then longest-running show in B’way history.
