Red Bull Theater to Present Benefit Performance of Your Own Thing
Red Bull Theater will present a benefit performance of the 1968 Rock Musical "Your Own Thing" at 7:30 PM on Mon Dec 12th at Peter Norton Symphony Space (2537 B'way.) The first New York presentation in decades will feature Eddie Cooper, Lilli Cooper, Santino Fontana, Lesli Margherita, Simon Pearl, Michael Pilato, Jennifer Sánchez, and Vaden Thurgood. A storm shipwrecks an up-and-coming music duo, twins Viola and Sebastian. The pair end up in the land of Illyria, which looks very much like New York City, circa 1968. And the rest is Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night–well, kind of. With its frisky light-rock score, anything-goes philosophy, and outrageous visuals, "Your Own Thing" captured the zanier aspects of the rebellious energy and experimentation of the Sixties. "Your Own Thing" ran Off-Broadway for 937 performances and toured the country. The production is directed by Gabriel Barre with musical direction by Greg Pliska and will include special appearances by Kate Burton, Michael Cerveris, Robert Cuccioli, Tovah Feldshuh, Richard Kind, Ken Page, Patrick Page, Ken Page, Laila Robins, Jay O Sanders, Mary Testa, John Douglas Thompson, Michael Urie, and Bruce Vilanch. The musical has a Book by Donald Driver and Music & Lyrics by Hal Hester and Danny Apolinar. It was originally produced in New York by Zev Bufman and Dorothy Love.
